Menu checks and shell panels do less work
Commits on the quattro development branch reduce repeated work when opening menus and starting the shell. Menu checks now run concurrently, cache installed packages until a transaction changes them, and avoid running the complete startup batch twice. Hardware and Wi-Fi checks also use cheaper queries. The commit account reports guard processing falling from about 195 ms to 55 ms with the combined changes; these are author measurements. omacom/omarchy@56be33258279
Bar panels now build their content on first opening and retain it afterward, while audio sink detection responds to PipeWire changes instead of polling every 15 seconds. These are committed changes, rather than a stable release announcement. dhh is a recorded participant on the commits, whose author metadata attributes them to David Heinemeier Hansson. omacom/omarchy@4c1b4cb3a944 omacom/omarchy@84ba0c453f5e
Clipboard previews decode smaller images
dhh opened a proposal to decode clipboard thumbnails, clipboard previews and media artwork near their displayed size. Its current description reports roughly 50 MB less shell memory after opening the clipboard on the author's machine, rather than an independently verified saving. The proposal opened during coverage and was subsequently merged by
dhh into quattro on October 13, 2026. omacom/omarchy#15200
Review by greptile-apps[bot] identified two ways to lose the intended savings: PNG filenames containing .svg could take the wrong path, and extremely thin images could fall back to full-size decoding.
dhh reported narrowing SVG detection and keeping the thin-image fallback bounded. Those exchanges document concrete corrections during review. omacom/omarchy#15200:discussion_r4250797313 omacom/omarchy#15200:discussion_r4250930987
USB and Thunderbolt approval is fully reverted
ryanrhughes proposed and merged the full device approval rollback into quattro. It removes the approval feature and includes a migration for machines that enabled it, rather than merely hiding its menus. The committed record includes boot rebuild verification, Thunderbolt journal recovery and checks for Omarchy ownership of USBGuard. omacom/omarchy#15091 omacom/omarchy@defbf90e893e
greptile-apps[bot] raised risks involving removal of independently configured USB protection, failed boot rebuilds and boot partitions outside the usual location. The current proposal description records safeguards for these cases: ownership evidence before USBGuard removal, a pending marker until rebuilt entries are verified, and use of the configured boot partition. That description was edited after coverage; it supplies current context for the merged rollback.
Agent seat proposes independent input for sandboxed apps
KewkLW opened an agent seat proposal that remains open. Its current design puts graphical apps behind a Wayland broker and bubblewrap sandbox, giving an agent its own pointer and keyboard while leaving the user's input available. Named controls and screenshots would let agents operate those windows without borrowing the user's cursor. The proposal body has been updated since coverage. omacom/omarchy#15087
In the October 12 discussion, greptile-apps[bot] identified clipboard ownership and other isolation problems.
KewkLW reported clearing old user input serials after agent takeover and later preventing an unresponsive live broker from being replaced underneath running apps.
jandrusk requested a dedicated security pass and a maintainer decision on whether the feature belongs in-tree;
KewkLW welcomed that review and acknowledged host network access as a known limit. omacom/omarchy#15087:issuecomment-6120390481 omacom/omarchy#15087:issuecomment-6130214244 omacom/omarchy#15087:issuecomment-6134337515
N1x kernel patches target deeper suspend
ryanrhughes proposed and merged kernel package changes into the n1x branch to let suspend-to-idle reach Standby-DRIPS. The patches adjust firmware idle-state latency handling and enable deeper PCIe link power saving for NVMe on N1x systems. The intended benefit is lower battery drain and less heat while the laptop sleeps. omacom/omarchy-pkgs#991
The author's overnight ASUS ProArt P14 measurement was 0.77 W, but that run included additional patches outside this proposal. A shorter test using only the two submitted patches measured 1.3 W and reached the same deep state. These are author-reported results, and the branch merge does not establish a stable release.
Video wallpapers would pause on battery
dhh opened a proposal to make owe video wallpapers hold their current frame on battery. It remains open. The current description specifies a default configuration for new users and a migration for existing users without an owe configuration, preserving existing choices. Pausing would stop continued video decoding while unplugged. omacom/omarchy#15219
greptile-apps[bot] found that the migration initially ignored a relocated XDG configuration directory.
dhh reported correcting the destination and adding coverage for that case. The author could check configuration loading but had no battery-equipped machine to exercise the actual unplug behavior. omacom/omarchy#15219:discussion_r4251962666 omacom/omarchy#15219:discussion_r4252141920
Installer proposal adds a Chinese console
Raiden-MeixElysia opened an ISO proposal that asks for English or Simplified Chinese before the other installation choices. Chinese selection runs the configurator inside cage and foot so the console can render Chinese characters, then translates the configuration screens and installation dashboard and sets the target locale. The proposal remains open and depends on other installer and setup work. omacom/omarchy-iso#263
The author reports an offline virtual-machine installation reaching a Chinese locale with working Pinyin input, alongside an English harness run. Without a suitable display or font, the proposed installer falls back to English on the virtual terminal while retaining the Chinese target locale. Language selection remains separate from region selection.
Tormarchy verification withdrawn after privilege finding
TripleU613 closed the Tormarchy 1.2.0 marketplace verification request after
HANCORE-linux identified a passwordless privilege escalation path in the submitted commit. The reviewer reported that a broadly authorized program entry allowed browser-exec to run caller-supplied commands as root. This was a withdrawn verification request, not publication of a verified update. omacom/omarchy-plugin-marketplace#11155
TripleU613 confirmed the finding and reported an upstream fix restricting privileged entry points to specific subcommands and refusing browser execution as root. The author said a new request would follow for a release containing the fix. That response establishes a reported correction, without establishing marketplace verification of the replacement. omacom/omarchy-plugin-marketplace#11155:issuecomment-6125303525
Portal restart narrows descriptor exhaustion investigation
joetossell reported that restarting xdg-desktop-portal-hyprland reduced Hyprland's file descriptor count from 8,479 to 549 while keeping all 33 windows open. The measurement connected accumulated keymap descriptors with stuck portal connections and supplied a workaround for that session. The underlying issue remains open. omacom/omarchy#8331:issuecomment-6121916979
Responding with source analysis, omarchybot argued that stale input-capture sessions and their EIS queues better explain the retained keymaps than ordinary Wayland connections. It described a multipart upstream fix, with the portal component still awaiting review at the time of the comment. The input-capture client responsible on
joetossell's machine was not established, so this remains a diagnosis supported by a user measurement and source analysis, rather than a shipped Omarchy fix. omacom/omarchy#8331:issuecomment-6122210613
