Snapdragon video acceleration

birkskyum’s #15697 lets mpv and Chromium use the video hardware on Snapdragon laptops instead of decoding on the CPU. Other ARM boards await testing; existing hwdec and ANGLE choices remain respected.

birkskyum reports tests on a Yoga Slim 7x: CPU use for 1080p playback was about one fifth in mpv, while Chromium used about 20% of one core instead of 50–60%. These are the author’s results from one machine, not independent benchmarks. birkskyum also describes a migration for existing installs.

The change merged into the quattro development branch on 17 October at 03:01 UTC. This does not establish availability in a stable release.

Open proposals

Per-display scaling and rotation

The scaling proposal dates from 16 October UTC and provides context for the rotation proposal and reviews on 17 October. timothygwright’s open #15665 lets users choose a display, including an unfocused output, and set its scale with --monitor OUTPUT SCALE. It aims to preserve per-output settings alongside symlinked configuration and a global GDK scale. timothygwright checked the interface with eDP-1 and DP-1 without changing live scale values, and acknowledged overlap with #13293, offering to incorporate useful parts if maintainers prefer.

verniegithub’s #15701 proposes 0°, 90°, 180° and 270° rotation through CLI and panel controls, applying changes live before saving. Together, these proposals address mixed-DPI and portrait-screen setups; neither is presented here as an accepted maintainer decision.

On 17 October, the Greptile review bot raised concerns about pointer buttons affecting enable/disable behavior, concurrent live and saved operations disagreeing, and keyboard access. A later comment noted that Enter could reset the selection. These are historical review concerns, not a claim that they remain unresolved.
